Festival of Red Celebrated

Share with

Known as “The festival of Red”, Teej, the main festival of Hindu women, is celebrated every year in Nepal as one of the major occasions. Wearing beautiful red dresses (sarees), women from a locality or many, gather in a place and then sing, dance and share their sorrows and happiness through unique songs.

It is also remarkable because these women fast (stay empty-stomach) for the whole day. Among them, married women pray for the long and prosperous life of their husband and unmarried women pray wishing for their peaceful future conjugal life.

Our Interns visited The Pashupatinath Temple on the same holy day, hoping to get some new experience and taste of a different atmosphere, which they felt they did. With some lovely photographs enriched with lively natural emotions, it was definitely worth visiting the place. There was no time for interviewing anyone, because of the hustle all around, yet the emotions of all the women were the answers to every questions. Not only did they join the noisy though enjoyable and lovely herd of dancing women, they also realized the value of the festival for these Hindu women. And this was when they found out that these women dance without drinking a single drop of water for the whole day, which was pretty incredible in their view.

So with all the fun moments and live observation of this amazing festival, interns left the place with a sight they’d never seen before and with many more of these to come.
