My elective experience in Nepal

I spent 4 weeks doing medical elective in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and staying with Mr. Nardev’s family in Bishalnagal. The only regret I have is not to stay longer.

Mr. Nardev and his family (Shila Ma, Ashim, Zanuka, Muskan and Tommy)’s warm hospitality made me feel like home in Nepal. I shall never shut up about Shila Ma’s hot masala tea. Surrounded by big groups of interns (medical intern, photojournalist and those whom write human right thesis), I am blessed to meet all these wonderful people from all over the world and ended year 2015 with such good happy memories.

The accommodation is of good maintenance and good hygiene, equipped with hot water shower, rooftop for amazing sunset view of Kathmandu aka our favourite hang out spot for chit chatting and cup of hot chai. Shila Ma is a good cook, I am pretty sure you’ll love the food once you get a taste of it. This comment comes from someone whom grew up in Penang, which is known as the best street food city in Asia.

Doctors in the Internal Medicine Department are kind and helpful, always translating cases into English for us. Conference at 9 o’clock every morning will be carried out in English while case presentation at 1 pm was done in English as well, with complimentary free lunch. Yes for cheap medical student’s life. I had learnt a lot from examining the patients in TUTH, as patients tend to present late to the hospital with obvious signs and various complications. This is something we do not normally seen in Malaysia.

Nepal is a great and welcoming country. Come to Nepal and enjoy your internship here. I would recommend Internship Nepal.
